"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more.
If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."
- Oprah Winfrey -
With so much going on in the world, and - thanks to technology - the ability to hear about it in a nano-second, it's easy to lose track of all those things that we are lucky enough to enjoy where we live. Recently, gratitude movements have been trending and studies are proving that a little gratitude goes a long way towards positive thinking, better relationships and better health. This month's edition of Shape Magazine explores a few more reasons why being grateful every day of the year is good for you. Grateful teens do better in school. Grateful couples have better sex lives. Grateful people sleep better.
So now that you know WHY you should be grateful, why not put together your own list of WHAT to be grateful for. Here ours:
1) Good Health
Good health is something to be appreciated by those lucky enough to have it. Appreciating and nurturing the wonder that your body is makes everything else easier.
2) Family Time
Those sometimes rare moments when we are all together (like Thanksgiving) or even just sitting down to dinner and recapping the day.
3) Food on the Table & A Roof Over Your Head
Add some color to your food for extra appreciation and use the good plates year-round (not jus on special occasions like Thanksgiving.)
4) Flowers
Flowers, plants, pumpkins, trees - anything that adds a splash of decor to the outdoors.
5) Romance
Whether you are living it, reading about it or watching it on TV.
6) Humor
There's nothing like a good belly laugh-till-you-cry moment.
7) All The Little Things
Dessert, a warm day, the smell of clean sheets, your favorite movie, your morning coffee, a bubble bath, a letter in your mailbox, and all those other little things that feel so good.
8) The Ocean
Just breathing it in and imagining what's on the other side.
9) Art, Music, Architecture
Whatever your taste.
10) Good People
Whether it's a friend who is always there for you, volunteers who give their time to important causes, or those good people who don't even know us but risk their lives to keep us safe... Where would we be without these real superheroes?
